Code of Conduct

Events produced by the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care, Inc. (“NIC”) provide sector stakeholders and others with high-quality programming and opportunities to convene, network, learn, and advance innovation to enable access and choice for America’s seniors.

NIC strives to provide a safe, welcoming, and productive environment for all NIC event participants and NIC staff. To that end, this NIC Events Code of Conduct (“Code of Conduct”) applies to all NIC events, including but not limited to conferences, receptions, meetings, bootcamps, leadership huddles, NIC Academy courses, and virtual webinars, as well as related social gatherings and contacts.

As a condition of attendance and participation, all participants, including registrants, attendees, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, NIC staff, and service providers, are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct.

Expected Conduct

All event participants are expected to:

  • Conduct themselves with professional decorum.
  • Exercise consideration and respect in speech and actions.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and speech.
  • Treat every participant with respect, regardless of their role or capacity at the event.

Unacceptable Conduct

Unacceptable conduct includes:

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning actions, including offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, race, religion, national origin, or other personal characteristics.
  • Verbal or physical abuse, intimidation, or conduct intended to annoy, scare, or offend others.
  • Disruptive conduct during any event, meeting, or session.
  • Any real or implied threat of physical harm.
  • Any real or implied threat of professional or financial harm.
  • Using social media or electronic means to harass, stalk, or make unwelcome advances toward participants.
  • Any other conduct NIC deems inappropriate.

Additional Rules

Event participants must also adhere to the following:

  • Recording or sharing any meeting or related event, including sessions, presentations, or demos, in any format is strictly prohibited.
  • By attending a NIC event, participants grant NIC permission to use their image, likeness, and voice for marketing and promotional purposes.

Reporting

If someone witnesses or experiences conduct that violates this Code of Conduct, they should report it promptly to:

Participants agree to cooperate fully with any inquiry by NIC related to verifying the facts and circumstances of any report.

Consequences of Code of Conduct Violation

NIC reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate in response to a reported violation, including:

  • Issuing verbal or written warnings.
  • Immediate revocation of event access without warning or refund.
  • Banning a person from future NIC events.
  • Reporting illegal activity to local authorities.
  • Seeking injunctive relief and/or monetary damages.

Disclaimer, Release, and Indemnification

Disclaimer

Each participant is individually responsible for complying with this Code of Conduct. While NIC does not tolerate violations, NIC is not obligated to prevent them and cannot guarantee they will not occur.

Opinions, statements, presentations, and other materials shared by participants do not necessarily reflect NIC’s views unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Release

Participants release NIC and its directors, officers, employees, partners, sponsors, and agents from any liability related to NIC events. By registering, participants assume all risks associated with participation, including injury, death, property damage, or violations of this Code of Conduct by others.

Indemnity

Participants agree to indemnify and hold harmless NIC and its representatives from any loss, liability, claim, or demand arising from violations of this Code of Conduct, participation in NIC events, or violations of another participant’s rights.

By registering for a NIC event, participants agree to comply fully with this Code of Conduct and all terms outlined herein.
